Music is a beautiful thing. It connects with us on a deep emotional level. It stimulates the brain and evokes a powerful feel-good feeling, like eating a delicious chocolate bar or getting an adrenaline-boosting runner’s high. It has the power to bring together people from every walk of life, to connect people who, if not for their shared music interests, would otherwise never have spoken or met.

That’s why I believe giving someone the opportunity to play an instrument is a truly incredible gift. It’s so different from your typical present, a tangible use-once-then-put-in-a-corner type gift. It’s an experience. A journey that, if done right, will be with you forever. And in my opinion, the drums are the instrument to play – after all, who can name a famous flute player?!

My gift vouchers for drum lessons are categorised as Bronze, Silver and Gold. Bronze is (obviously) the lowest level, giving access to one one-hour private drum lesson. This is often a good idea for beginners or those who are hesitant to commit, but I guarantee they’ll be back for more once they’ve had a taste and caught the bug. Alternatively, Silver gives you two lessons and Gold four, which is a great gift for someone who’s already shown an interest or has played before.

Your voucher will arrive through the post, so you can make it look nice and fancy before handing it over, though the real joy will come when whoever you’ve given it to starts to play.

So, if you’re stuck for what gift to get your friend/son/daughter/dad or whoever, I recommend what will inevitably become their new passion – the drums.
