After committing to a rather ambitious gig, I realised that I needed to brush up on my drumming skills – the last thing I wanted to do was completely bomb on the night! After entertaining a few of these thoughts, I thought the best way to remedy this would be to seek out some drum lessons. I found Dave’s details online, and set up a session with him.

My goals were simple: I’m not here for ‘flash’ drumming, and I’m not here to try and become a master overnight. I want to make foundational improvements to my drumming. I want to be solid, with all the necessary technical fundamentals required to be the type of drummer who can hold a groove and complement a talented group of musicians.

Dave brought me right back down to basics, and as well as learning, we did some ‘unlearning’ too. He was quick to spot bad habits, and offer simple-to-follow advice to correct these issues. In addition to this, Dave carefully analysed my playing of the exact songs we were performing, and picked up problem areas to work on. This instilled a massive amount of confidence in me, and ultimately was crucial in the gig being a massive success.

Suffice to say, Dave is an excellent teacher. He creates an environment that encourages learning and fosters improvement. He is patient, relatable, and a natural teacher. I can thoroughly recommend Dave as a drum teacher – you’ll not only improve, but you’ll have an enjoyable time doing so.
